What's the Difference Between Synthetic and Conventional?
A synthetic oil change is still an oil change in that you are going to have the oil drained and replaced, as well as the oil filter and engine air filter, changed out, the main difference is, of course, the type of oil being used. With a synthetic oil change you can also go a bit longer between changes. For those that have a synthetic change, you can go about 5,000 miles or five months. This is not to say that you can neglect caring for your car between changes but that you can go longer.
Benefits of a Synthetic Oil Change
Synthetic changes are a great thing for older cars that might need thicker oil that does not change texture quite as quickly, those cars that might have a slow oil leak or that might use oil quicker, and also those cars that are going to be driving a larger number of miles.
If you have a car that you are driving as a daily driver to work, you may put a few hundred miles on your car a week and a conventional oil change would require that you change your oil far too often. It is always best to talk with your mechanic or service center to see just what type of oil change is going to be best for your car, for your driving style, and for the overall needs of your car. With the right oil change, you can keep your car running longer and you can keep your car running well over 100,000 miles.
