Volkswagen 60,000-Mile Service

What Goes Into the Volkswagen 60,000-Mile Service?

It's reasonable to assume that the Volkswagen 60,000-mile service looks much like the 30,000-mile service. But, while these maintenance items are also included, the 60k-mile service also includes brake rotor resurfacing or replacement, battery replacement, and an extensive inspection of all belts and hoses. Find out more about what goes into these services below, or schedule your next service appointment at Germain Volkswagen of Columbus.

VW Brake Rotor Resurfacing or Replacement

Though the brake pads bear the brunt of the braking force, the rotors (or discs) receive their fair amount of wear and tear over the years, as well. This is especially true if you have a habit of hard braking. If the rotors have worn unevenly, there's a chance that they can simply be resurfaced. However, if the rotors are too thin to resurface, they may have to be replaced instead. If you notice any symptoms of unevenly or excessively worn rotors, including vibrations or odd noises when you step on the brakes, don't wait: bring your VW to our service center right away so we can diagnose the problem.

VW Battery Replacement

No matter how high-quality your car's battery may be, it will eventually lose its ability to hold a charge, making your car difficult or impossible to start! Assuming you haven't already had a new battery put in, we find that 60,000 miles on the odometer is just about the time when OEM batteries finally begin to wear out. The good news: our parts boutique is filled with the same types of high-quality batteries like the one that was in your VW when it rolled off the line.

VW Belts & Hoses Inspection

The engine in your Volkswagen is equipped with several rubber hoses and at least one rubber belt. Though these components are strong, they do wear over time. The hoses include radiator hoses, which carry coolant around the cooling system, and heater hoses, which carries hot coolant to the heater core and away again. A leaking radiator or coolant hose can lead to a dangerous coolant leak. In addition, brake lines, vacuum hoses, and fuel lines are also often made of rubber. In addition, your VW likely has a serpentine belt that controls the A/C compressor, the power steering pump, and more; if this snaps, your car could suddenly lose power-a frightening experience.
